Bohinc Studio has launched its new collection ‘Afternoon Tea’ at London Design Festival. The nine new pieces, designed by Lara Bohinc, include dining chairs, armchairs, a sofa and tables in delicious sherbet colours.

Lara Bohinc was a design consultant for many luxury brands including Montblanc, Gucci and most notably Cartier, a position she held for over a decade. Bohinc’s ability to create works of iconic beauty stems from her familiarity with materials and manufacturing methods. The principles she applies to all her designs are the use of the finest materials and an obsession with the deconstruction and reconfiguration of pure geometric form.

I wanted to create pieces with a sculptural aesthetic to fill this void; some are creature-like shapes that emanate friendly and tactile qualities – they’re even huggable. And I wanted other pieces to look delicious, applying dramatically curvaceous patisserie forms to make them seem good enough to eat.

The pieces convey the same sense of sweet indulgence that an afternoon tea does. They are in pretty pastel and bold brown tones and caress their wearer with their sensual shapes – a real treat.

I used fabric to create the feeling of comfort and embrace. I love to evolve fresh circular forms and this collection continues that geometric aesthetic, but this collection is a more feminine expression, one that moves away from angular metalwork.

Bohinc’s signature style is a mix of contradictions: bold yet light, graphic yet fluid, angular yet feminine.

Bohinc Studio has a language all its own, which is easily seen in the small to large furniture and objects. These pieces are made from a variety of natural materials including ceramic, stone, glass and many others. Metal is their favourite material as it is one of the most sustainable materials today.

‘For us a Hotel is a dream job – it allows to work in so many different typologies – Spas and Bars, restaurants and bedrooms, conference rooms and corridors. The idea that we can create a complete universe that people can live in for a night or a week, what’s not to like?’

‘Residential is always more challenging as a typology, as you are dealing with someone who will encounter your work every day for a decade or even a lifetime, it’s a serious responsibility. The challenge in show flats is also the problem of not having an actual client – you have to balance having enough character to stand out with a broad enough appeal, yet make it popular amongst a variety of unknown owners.’

The team wanted to bring a sense of place, warmth and comfort to the public areas of the hotel and to honour the new services provided by the Pullman team. Working within the confines of the existing architecture and interiors, they employed bold sculptural interventions.

“Hotels are places for holidays and for business , for relaxation and rest and refuelling, and it’s a business typology that for many years was relatively static and conservative but is now in rapid disruptive change – so this is always when design becomes interesting.”

The hydraulic ladder passarelle allows guests to effortlessly access the watersports on offer and fully enjoy their time on the water.

Accessed by dual teak staircases, the substantial aft cockpit offers an array of free-standing or fixed seating variations to suit owner preference, an integrated wet bar with a fridge, ice maker, stainless steel sink and ample storage lockers.

Later in the day, the foredeck can transform into an open-air cinema with laser projector and 140-inch screen that will no doubt capture the imagination of all guests. A new hardtop design is available with glazing or retractable tilting vains for added shade control.

Its unique main deck, penthouse-style saloon and luxurious staterooms offer a new-found design direction and material selection providing elegant interiors to enchant any owner.
